Tankless Water Heaters: Indoor vs. Outdoor
There are many advantages to having a tankless hot water heater. The benefits of owning this type of unit range from being compact in size to energy efficient. When purchasing a tankless water heater, there is always the question of which unit will best fit your needs - indoor or outdoor? To help determine which would be the best choice for you, let's take a look at some key points to take in to consideration.
An indoor tankless water heater is installed inside your home. An outdoor unit is installed outside the home and is designed to withstand the elements. If you live in a climate where temperatures drop below freezing, you must always be sure to take precautions to avoid freeze damage, such as draining the unit. If mounted outside, the unit vents from free air flow. With mounting inside of the home, you must use some type of ventilation piping, whether it is vertical or horizontal venting. Tankless water heaters require specialized venting. Indoor tankless water heaters must be installed so water created by condensation can be drained away from the heater.
